I don't think any of Spector's mixes were made into singles, but those would be my selections if that choice was given.

"Bell has described his music as being heavily influenced by The Beatles and The Beach Boys, with the Beatles being his main influence.[20] He says that three of his other influences are Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly,[21] and Elvis Costello."

Bell?

Oh, and Elvis Costello rules. Never caught the Beach Boys bug.

Drake Bell. Most famous for Drake & Josh which is most famous for Miranda Cosgrove. Apparently he's also broke.

I would lash some coconuts together and paddle over to Stones single island and pick up a copy of Wild Horses / Sway

What's most surprising about this list, to me, is how few of my favorite Beatles songs were singles!

:)

I thought that, from Canada to Australia, almost every Beatles song has been a single at least (A- or B-side) in some country. For instance, I never knew that With A Little Help From My Friends / A Day in the Life was a single.

I wouldn't know what to choose, but, pointing with my fingers on a curiously mixed list, I apparently picked Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields Forever.
But what about I Feel Fine / She's A Woman?
And Paperback Writer / Rain?
Or Hey Jude / Revolution?

And all the other ones (not) mentioned?

Oh, and yes, I agree with mn dave that You Know My Name is the perfect drunk jerks song.
In the next 'clip', you can even hear a Beatle burp at 4:17, probably caused by some inferior Liverpudlian ale.

It'll have to do, until they start loading Stockhausen on the world's jukeboxes . . . .

Well, we all know that drunk men's songs are known as so-called Gesänge der Jünglinge and we also know that McCartney loved Stockhausen's Gesang. He probably sipped some tea before listening.

guess that is better than a bunch of drunks trying to perform the Helicopter String Quartet

. . . not that it hasn't been tried . . . .

San Antone

toss up ~

Daytripper/We can work it out

Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane (has slight edge)

I had thought that Lady Madonna was backed with Hey Bulldog, which would have been my choice, but The Inner Light was the "b" side.  So, no cigar.

They certainly put the strongest song on the A-side of that one (and hey, I'm a McCartney fan).

Well, if Hey Bulldog were the B-side of Lady Madonna, then The Inner Light would have been on the Yellow Submarine LP, along with TWO other Harrisongs. And if so, you can be certain that Lennon/McCartney would have said: No way, It's All Too Much. A reaction slightly overdone of course, because it's Only A Northern Song.

Still, every banker should be trimmed.

But should wait for it.

Well, if the barber is a lumberjack, I would say go ahead and trim away!

George Martin would agree. He once said it was the Beatles' best single release pairing.

By this point, both tunes were considered "A" side cuts.

In a statistical irony, since the sales wound up divided between the two titles, that single was not "technically" the best-selling single of its year, according to the industry tabulations . . . .
