I always laughed my ass off whilst reading those interviews.

Those were the days, my friend.

I like Blondie more today, but would have chosen the Talking Heads at the time. But the big truth is that this was the decade I discovered classical.

Husker Du! I remember a gig at the Manchester International (now sadly defunct) in the mid 80s. Front row. And a pint with Bob Mould afterwards! Not sure if I'd class them as New Wave though. More hardcore punk? post-punk?

(UK Subs)

I saw the Subs in Heidelberg, fall of '83. Really small venue (a sports club) with the band on the same level, on the floor, with the crowd. Fantastically intimate. After the very short first set, the roadies began packing up. Confused, I asked one of them what was going on. He said the band was pissed off because the German punks didn't seem to appreciate them (no applause at the end of songs...and maybe no gobbing  ). I explained that's just how the Germans were (undemonstrative and cool) but that they really liked the band. He said he'd talk to Charlie Harper. The band did come back out for a second set and they seemed more energized. When they came back out, they got a huge ovation and Charlie said, "I didn't think you cared." So I saved the show  8)  I also saved my pal who was attacked in the mosh pit by four skinheads. Cavalry to the rescue  ;D Together we scattered them but not before they'd ripped off and ruined his brand new Anti-Nowhere League shirt--a shirt I'd bought and brought from Amsterdam the day before.

After the show we had a drink with Charlie in the bar. A great night.

Not much of a choice, really.

Sounds (a little) bit like my Undertones experience in .... 2009.
The band got pissed because of the bad sound, I sorta thought of keeping them going during their gig by shouting we love you lads or we want more and JIMMY JIMMY!

Anyway, after the concert we ended with the lads in the bar (Vera, Groningen, NL) and talked almost all night about teenage kicks, love, John Peel, family, children and Vaughan Williams. Those (Northern) Irish blokes swallowed their pints at top speed, and we had no other option than to join them. Which we did.
