In its webpage, the Berlin Philharmonic has announced the launching of ts own CD label. I've been told (pending confirmation) that they've cancelled all contracts with other labels.

The first release has Simon Rattle conducting the complete Schumann symphonies:

It's 2 CDs plus a BluRay disc, presented in a hardbound book. The asking price, alas, is rather high: 49,99 €.  >:(

I must say, too, that these "non-standard" presentations (elongated format as here) can be rather cumbersome for those of us with limited shelfspace...  ::)

Yeah, I'm surprised there is a market for this kind of extravagance. There's a compact disc with audio files for your computer? Do people who want audio files not rip CDs? And there will be a vinyl release?

It seems to be working for SFS Media, what, with their $750 Mahler cycle on vinyl.

The orchestra, in turn, risks being surprised that there isn't.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Looking at the offerings, they seem to be pricing in Euros what I can get for the same quantity of dollars (f.i. Dudamel's Strauss recording is listed for €18, while I can get it for $18 just by walking into Barnes and Noble (actually less after coupons and discounts).
And if you notice none of us have raised the topic of how good the Schumann recordings might actually be.

I listened to the samples and felt no need to add to my Kubelik/SOBR, Bernstein/Sony, Zinman, and Chailly/Leipzig/Mahler.

I need to get that Lenny.  And the Chailly.  Both been on my wish list for a long time.
ETA:  and just ordered the Chailly.  But the listing for the Sony Bernstein seems to have completely disappeared.

Chailly's my favorite by a long shot. If you don't have the Kubelik, it is cheap. The Mozart is blah, but the Bruckner Three is a thrillride.

Have the Kubelik. First conductor who got me to like these symphonies.

Have you sampled Barenboim's Teldec/Warner?  (His DG is good, too, though I only have the Second on LP on present.)  Good stuff, really good stuff.

Haven't but want to. In fact it seems to be on NML... so I'll at least sample the cycle this afternoon.

Give up on Stockhausen. You've got Schumann now.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".
