Yes, they can't live without their dulce de leche and their "mate". But "mate" isn't a problem because it's also drunk in Southern Brazil.  :)

Mate!  I used to drink that all the time when I was a hippy student (35 years ago) and had completely forgotten about it.  I can taste it now - bitter, smoky, slightly sweet.  I used to get a very mild high from it, too - more than from tea or coffee, anyway.  Must try to track some down.  Well thanks, er, mate.  One cup and I'll probably be knocking them in like Tim Cahill.

The English team visited a Brazilian orphanage yesterday, "It's heartbreaking to se their sad faces, without any hope", said Jose, age 6.

That there's funny, I don't care who you are!   :D  :D

And, as customary during the 21st century, the previous champs are out! What a shocker for Spain!

I for my part shall miss Australia, not the empty and exhausted Spanish team. The DVD Recorder saved me while I was out for Bruckner last night and I watched Netherlands-Australia afterwards unaware of the final score. From the other side, Chile excellent as they are we all know who's going to advance in a Brazil-Chile match... And Greece is a bad joke that has to end up somehow the soonest possible

Chile?  Being serious here.  Guess who knocked out Brazil in the Group of 16 in the previous World Cup? Chile.

Uh? Brazil-Chile 3-0 (Juan 34', Luis Fabiano 39' Robinho 58'), Johannesburg 28 JUN 2010 The Dutch eliminated Brazil back in 2010... Also in 1998 Brazil-Chile 4-1 in the Round of the 16. Make a coffee, you need it  ;)

Poor old Spain LOL, playing worse than England

I expected Chile to beat Spain last night after watching Chile tear England to pieces at Wembley about 8 weeks ago.  They beat us 2-0 and it was flattering to us.

Although we played well in parts against Italy, we still can't keep the ball for more than 10 seconds, and when we have prolonged purple patches we can not score.  I guess its still the same with us, we just don't know how to win like other countries.

Expecting a win tonight against Uruguay, if not its back to Cricket v Australia on the Copa Beach  ;)

Superb and exciting match between England and Uruguay .... didn't deserve a losing team.

Suárez was razor sharp, despite his serious knee injury only a month ago.

Now there's only a mathematical chance that England gets to the 2nd round, but there's no need for them to feel ashamed.

"Cristal" is totally horse piss. It's our most popular beer and I guess thousands of liters were drank the last Wednesday, but even Budweiser is quite better.  :D

I drank this one during the game with Spain:

A girly beer with honey from Southern Chile.  :)

An excellent infusion, no doubt. Especially because of the ceremony involved in its preparation:

As I said, it was too soon to think that Uruguay was dead.

Well, now we have a nice meeting the next Monday, dear Marc.  :D

Really! Honey Beer? Who knew?

I drink a variety of Mexican beers, they are readily available here and really quite good, not watered down like a lot of American beers. I like that I can find various imports, my wife will buy me a six-pack of six different brands to try out, I have had dozens of beer varieties this way, and indeed, several of them were horse piss, but some were damned good!  Nothing Chilean yet though, need to work on that. :)

Meanwhile, I am awaiting the big showdown between Chile and USA... perhaps with a Belgian beer to remain neutral... :D

You certainly did.  And my prediction of 3rd place for England was rather over-optimistic, too.

BTW, It's very refreshing that you South Americans seem to like your neighbours and genuinely want them to do well - how unlike us Europeans, and especially us British.

Just watched Ghana v Germany, other two teams in our group.  2 - 2 in the end, although Ghana impressed far more than Germany did. Except when it came to scoring... I feel pretty good about making it to the knockout round right about now. :)

Well, of course I hate it for Portugal, but some things are meant to be and others not. I was sad to see them enter the Group of Death right from the beginning...  0:)
