Pretty much, I'm afraid. It would take an extraordinary talent to revive it, and I don't think the great talents are gravitating in that direction. As James says, it's overdue.  >:D

Dead to the mainstream perhaps.

Rock is no longer pop, but is alive and well.

If my eighteen year old son's taste in music is any indication, it's not dead, but it's not hale, either.

To borrow Zappa's bon mot, Rock isn't dead, it just smells funny.

Well, there's really no substitute for it. I think we'd have to define "dead".

I don't even know what constitutes rock these days since there are so many sub-genres. When I absolutely need to listen to some, I'll stick to Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin.

Is this rock?

(And, if it isn't: who needs rock, when you've got this?) ;)

Pet Rock, I'm sure, is a dead fad.

No, that's ProgRock, which is just zappa without vocals. Rock would be like 'Barracuda' by Heart,- or 'AchillesLlast Stand',... 'Monkee man'... grunge... 'Enter sandman'...

Metal is just confused like a kid with pimples.

oy- sorry- I'm just ranting :-[ I did like that song 'Bad Romance' haha- that was like Alice Cooper- THAT WAS ROCK- yes, I did just say that: Gaga WAS more Rock than Rock when that came out (cause-, uh, there was no rock),.. but, that was 15 seconds, so,... next...

Now Rammstein's a lot of fun!!

I don't think about it too often.

Not dead but stuck on repeat, and has been for quite some time.
