The Cleveland Orchestra's  Miami residency includes a weekend in which they perform two different programs, albeit similar--one symphony each by Beethoven and Shostakovich.   Presuming I go to either, which is preferable?

Full schedule is here

Brian

If forced to choose, I would choose both.

Karl Henning

Brian having already played  that card . . . If you had to choose one, I'd go with the Shostakovich Tenth . . . which I first heard, live, played by the Clevelanders.

Wanderer

The Tenth of course, no questions asked.

Eroica + DSCH 6th

Eroica is a masterpiece. And you probably won't have many other chances to see Shostakovich's 6th live, the 10th seems to be programmed more often.

Unlike the 5th?

That's a valid argument, for sure.

Friday night gives you a more favourable Beethoven:Shostakovich ratio.

The new erato

I would go before the break on Friday night, and after the break on Saturday.

Sergeant Rock

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

The poll results sure must be helpful..

at least no one has voted for "not a great conductor" option.
