How about "Stairway to Heaven"?

I can dig it about once a year.  Some years, I can give it a miss.

I'm sure there's likeable Southern Rock ("Sharp-Dressed Man"?), but if I never hear "Freebird" again, I can be a happy man.  Happier 'n a tick on a dog's ear.

Or even a pig in shit.  ;D

Karl Henning

I've not seen any.  But I am prepared to doubt that pigs really enjoy themselves there.

"Do 'Freebird'!"

I mean, it's a nice Ballad if you cut off the ending... I could see Cowboy Junkies doing it! ;)

But that's the point. Here it is, almost 50 years later, and 'Smoke on the Water' IS AS ICONIC AS EVER. NO MODERN MUSICIAN has the kind of power today that dead people appear to have--- and, because of the Adage "Rock n Roll Will Never Die"--- it is not NEW music that will never die, (in their eyes) but THESE OLD WARHORSES--- the powers that be have ensured that you WILL hear your least favourite songs from your childhood FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES.

HOW INDIDIDEOUS!!!

"... A FIRE IN THE SKY..."

try to get THAT out of your head!!!!!

THE LIVING DEAD OF ROCK N ROLL IS WHAT THEY HAVE GIVEN US TO DINE UPON!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!!!

This is wonderful.

Skimmed through Freebird, thinking I would have recognized it, but I guess not. For that style of music I can see why it's well known, though I really just don't care for that style at all.

It was funny when on NPR they talked about the top pop music of this year/last year and noted that it's pretty much all "shake your booty" or "look at how awesome and egotistical I am" music. I can understand the point of it being a corporate, modern America driven version of Soviet propaganda art (meant to keep the populace peacefully and happily working with no negative energy in order to prevent feelings of rebellion).

A perfect example is this atrocity from 2009:
