Any good recommended musics or musicians that has similar aspects of Shostakovich sym 15?

It's one of my favorite and I like listening to it while I think about something.

It has calm philosophical aspects and also gives me catharsis..

I'm looking for symphony(or with similar size) that I could enjoy on quiet nights

I don't know if I would be comfortable with really heavy atonal musics(like Schoenberg) though, since I do enjoy melodic parts of Shos.15 :)

Different, and yet with a similar juxtaposition of lyricism and whimsy (and also, a last symphony):  the Nielsen Sixth (a/k/a Sinfonia semplice).

The Nielsen Sixth is a good recommendation.

A couple of other Shostakovich recommendations:

- The 2nd cello concerto has very much the same atmosphere as the 15th symphony.
- The 9th symphony is very different, but it has something of the same quirky nature.

Schnittke's late symphonies have something in common with DSCH 15, too: the 8th is generally regarded as the best of them, but the 7th is spiritually closest (though less superficially attractive).

A bit more of a flyer: you could try Sallinen's 5th symphony ('Washington Mosaics'). It's also quirky, elliptical and rather dark.
