I see you've met Snyprrr8)

Yep. Some time ago.

I was warned (and I'm paraphrasing here) that if I ever understood Snyprrr's posts I may want to check my sanity.

I personally think that's a little harsh. At least one person understands Snyprrr.

That needs to go under the great album cover art thread.  8)
A really great cover would use this guy ...

I'm more than happy to put that little chap on an album cover. Are there any in particular you'd like to see him on?

the demon drummer boy surely takes the prize; ...

I think this one is worse:

And this:

Maybe not this:

But it's still pretty gruesome.

Quote from: Jo498 on October 19, 2014, 09:54:37 AM... I couldn't believe that it was an original cover...

Yes indeed. Decca Ovation was a series started in the mid-'80s, and the first batch proudly featured pixelated images. Discogs has a list of them here.

He's already made his rounds, they are in here somewhere but here are some again...

And my personal favorite, Sir Benjimonkey Britten...

I had/have the demon drummer Berlioz CD, but I do not remember it being so pixelated.  Perhaps they redid the cover at some point.

Well played, original modifier.

I would like to see what your magic album cover machine can conjure up.  ;D mine are quick hack and slash photoshop jobs.

Maybe they thought it needed more pixelating. ("Hey, Bob, you got still got that photo? The boss says it doesn't look modern enough. We gotta do it again...")

Nope. This is the original cover:

Yep. And that's one of the least attractive album covers I've seen this year. There's absolutely nothing about that cover that prompts me to say, "Hmm, I really want to hear what's on that album."

And I just realised the previous paragraph contained at least four "that"s. (There may be more.)

I think that from now on I'll need to do some more proof-reading before I press the "Post" button.

(And I just did it again with another "that". Oops.)

As I started my day looking for new classical album covers to deface, I came across this:

I was convinced that was a joke. But no, it's a real cover. It's apparently Cecilia Bartoli's latest album, Mission. (Details here: http://ceciliabartolionline.com/mission/)

The record company, Decca, have gone all out with the promotional material. They're using little YouTube videos in order to build up "mystery", and "anticipation", and "desire", and other words in inverted commas I can't think of at the moment:

There's a whole series of short videos that I won't inflict upon you. Two's enough.

Here are some Mission-related photos featuring Cecilia Baldoli™:

I've said this before, but:

"What were they thinking?"

Here's another album cover in the series that may come to be known as There's Nothing Decca's Graphic Designers Won't Do To Cecilia Bartoli:

And here's an utterly inexplicable promo shot of Cecilia Bartoli:

Oh, and Decca, the record company responsible for that photo, wants me to do two things. First, it wants me to acknowledge the photographer. OK, I can do that:

© Uli Weber / DG.

Fair enough.

And Decca says its name has to be mentioned in any text acompanying the photo. No problem:

Decca.

It is certainly an ugly cover, but I think that it is fitting for Shostakovich -- the idea of a mask. Especially if the person behind the smiling mask is miserable. Too bad that they didn't pick a better photo for that idea.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".
