I thought I'd start a thread to post links to announcements of orchestra series, with what I perceive to be interesting programming
starting with BUFFALO  https://bpo.org/tickets-and-events/subscriptions/season:2015-2016-season/
Novák Overture to "Lady Godiva;" "In the Tatra Mountains" and "Eternal Longing" for a disc that is expected in late 2016 or early 2017, VAUGHAN WILLIAMS: Dona Nobis Pacem, and  Violinist Elina Vahala will join the BPO for the United States premiere of Jaako Kuussisto's Violin Concerto; the orchestra will also perform Einojuhani Rautavaara's Symphony No. 1.

NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC http://nyphil.org/concerts-tickets/season/1516-season-highlights
includes a MESSIAEN week, 3 new pieces by SALONEN  and 3 world premieres Oct. 1–3 Marc Neikrug Canta-Concerto
Dec. 10–12 Andrew Norman Piano concerto (Jeffrey Kahane, piano), Apr. 27–30 Franck Krawczyk new work tba

Yes,  Novak being performed is great to hear. I'm sure this recording will be on Naxos. B|

It's still early and some orch's are hoping to fill seats for the rest of the season and not encouraging subscribers to put off current sales.  Don't feel offended if I did not pick out your favourites.

Houston will be ending their season with an HD movie of space, using images from the local Space Center, set to a live performance of Dvorak's Ninth. I don't know how I feel about that, but I do know how I feel about the first half of the concert: an extremely rare (for Texas) performance of Lutoslawski's Concerto for Orchestra.

There will also be a new viola concerto by Gabriela Lena Frank and a Shostakovich 10.

Runnicles conducted a fantastic Mahler 5 here last October as a substitute on short notice. A well earned return engagement.

I've seen Runnicles conduct the Atlanta Symphony three times now, by far the best three performances I've seen the ASO perform.

But seriously you should travel to Chicago and see it. Us Atlantians aren't nearly as lucky to get programming like that.  :'(

Dallas Symphony lineup is boring.

Here are the four I plan to buy tickets to:

Ravel - Concerto in G
Mahler - Symphony No. 1 with Blumine
Helene Grimaud; Jaap van Zweden

Ravel - Rapsodie espagnole
Rodrigo - you know which piece.
Franck - Symphony
Pepe Romero; Yan Pascal Tortelier

Berlioz - Damnation of Faust, complete
David Zinman

Pfitzner - Palestrina, prelude
Glass - Violin Concerto No. 1 (there are two now)
Holst - Planets
Karen Gomyo; Simone Young (ladies' night!)

So true and considering the ASO musicians have only recently settled the strike with management, we can only expect humdrum workhorses.

Well, I know that the musicians are always eager and ready to play. In fact a lot of them we're out free lancing during Sept and Oct before the contract was final. I see they still haven't announced next season, which seems fairly behind the rest of the world. Im sure managment is working on a blockbuster season for 2015-2016 to get butts in the seats. I just wish they would have consulted me first, I can create killer programming for them.  >:D ;D

Yeah, I would send them some killer programs as well. The unfortunate thing is I would be the only one who would show up for such a program. ;) ;D

It's far from clear that the best thing the world's orchestras should do isn't to see the environment we're in rather more clearly, quit what they're doing, and disband.

There is virtually nothing left to be said interpretively and virtually no music to write with any new aesthetic content; the whole historical period is artistically bankrupt and thoroughly antithetical to any further worthwhile performance or composition.

Needless to say.

Just heard Grimaud do Ravel G last week with Rotterdam and N-S. She's good in that piece. Worth hearing if the rep is your cup of tea.
