My avatar remains the same.  My username was Bulldog; changed it to Sammy when I adopted my silky terrier and named him Sammy.  Then I got a second terrier named Betty Lou.  Being a guy, I didn't change my username.  Why all the dog stuff?  DOGS ARE GREAT!

That wasn't your first user name though... :)

Gurn Blanston

When I first registered in 2003, I was Gurn Blanston. This was my avatar then:

At some point (in 2008??) we were hacked, and Rob encouraged changing our user names. I changed mine to Gurnatron 5500, because people here used to call me that because I was a question answering automaton. I went back to Gurn in 2011 or so, changed to my current avatar ~2008 also.

That's it. 2 names, 2 avatars. Singularly unadventurous, I must say. 0:)

Way more adventurous than me, though. Sergeant Rock I am, Sergeant Rock I will always be.

Yes, and thank god for it, too!   :)

The name change was a knee-jerk reaction to being given an order, I was a born Corporal. The avatars was on me though... :)

San Antone

My avatar has changed often, usually a work of abstract art.  I joined as Franco, but quit one day for some reason.  I came back after reading an article about San Antonio having a stretch of highway with an 85 mph speed limit, which appealed to my anarchist streak.  At that time my avatar was a photograph of the speed limit sign on an interstate.

sanantonio I'll be.  My current avatar is of Paul Cezanne, which I chose because of an uncanny resemblance to myself I never knew existed.

You had the best name ever during that time. And you gave it all away!!!!! :)

I used to be ukrneal, but when we were hacked, GMG lawyers advised a name change. So I just added mc to ukrneal. I don't really consider it a change, but an evolution.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

I would have preferred Betty Lou.  ;)

The one I liked best though was Archaic Torso of Walter Bruno...  :D

Archaic Torso of Apollo

I've been through several name changes since first joining GMG back in 2004:

Brian Havergal
Walter Bruno
Otto Skadelig
Spitvalve
Contents under Pressure
Velimir

and now Archaic Torso of Apollo. My current name is the title of a Rilke poem; Otto Skadelig is a fictional composer mentioned in A Clockwork Orange; Spitvalve because I used to play the trombone; Velimir is a tribute to the Futurist poet Velimir Khlebnikov, who actually invented the name and may have been the only person to possess it.
formerly VELIMIR (before that, Spitvalve)

Maybe he was the only one in Russia but it's pretty common name in Serbia and Croatia.

On topic: I never changed the screen name, it's the same from day one. It's actually my real life nickname (minus the diacritic on s ... I could add that now). Avatars did change, a lot at one period, but not recently.

I remember a dog with its head out the window heading to the beach.

Lisztianwagner

I have never changed my user name (it has always been Lisztianwagner), but I occasionally changed my avatar: I remember the very first one was Richard Wagner tsken from the standard pictures in the forum gallery, once Liszt, then I sometimes had Karajan's image. About the Santa avatars: Santa Karajan and a double-faced Liszt-Wagner.

I joined the old forum 2005 and have kept my username all the time except for a few months, when we were hacked, but this change caused rather much confusion. My avatar however I have changed 4 or 5 times, and will do again

Didn't you add the (:  : )  things in response to the hack? I remember a couple of people did that, at least for a while.

Oh, yes  -  you are right. I could add these without disguising myself, and even add an emoticon x 2 at the same time. :)

The Arlecchino mask? Thanks, I'm quite fond of it myself, It's not likely going to change anytime soon.

I've always liked the symbolism. The original Opus 111 Vivaldi/Biondi disks had a few masks that were excellent, so very Venetian!   :)
