Any fans? The older I get, the more I'm pulled towards the sea, especially surfing. Guess I'm compensating for growing up in a landlocked country. And being a rockabilly fan, surf rock was always just around the corner. Aside from the Dick Dale's and other classic acts, I'm interested in contemporary stuff and recently did some, erm, surfing on the web. Tons of clichés and copycats, obviously, but these are the bands / records that impressed me the most:

The Break, Australians, ex-Midnight Oil folks. Love this tune from their first album, Church of the Open Sky.

Aqua Velvets, Americans as classic as it gets without sounding redundant.

The Vulcanos, Argentinians. Tight!

The Bambi Molesters are Croatian, but hey, they've got a sea as well so leave your prejudices at the dock. I did and was pleasantly surprised.

And finally a bonus for the adventurous listener, Italians Heroin in Tahiti sound like what Neu! would probably end up playing, were they from California.

Bought their debut yesterday and I'm hooked on it since.

Peace out.

Well suuure, I play lead guitar in our area's premiere surf party combo! ;)

I have composed a couple of "theme medleys" TV themes, and "Dragnet" themes,... pretty wild rides,...

and of course the standard "25 Classics" that one must play,...

And then we try to morph into the Hendrixy later 60's stuff,... like, from Beach Boys to Vietnam to ... Disco????

Most obscure song we play right now is 'Penetration'.,... and 'Downey Surf',...

I knew the heroin was sure to lure someone.

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Indeed. In fact, there is an obvious musical connection too between the surf and garage bands of the 60s and late 70s, early 80s punk rock.

This and Summer Song are what got me into music (and playing guitar) in the first place.
