I used to own this great box set but stupidly sold it. Now it appears to be have disapeared off the face of the earth. Does anyone know where I can get it?

Thanks

Good question, and one that I've been asking myself as well during the past few years. I'm not really too fond of Shostakovich, but, if someone forced me at gunpoint to buy one set of his symphonies, it would be this one. But I'm not counting much on a suitable bargain to turn up.

It can be had on Amazon UK but it is not cheap....

I've been assembling it one album at a time off of ebay and amazon marketplace. Not getting a boxed set this way but, as noted above, a boxed set, when you can find it, is prohibitively expensive (for me, anyway). I've also opted for vinyl over CDs because, for this series, vinyl is easier to find than individual CDs. Good luck!

Venezia release is available from Japan for about 40 euros/dollars:

It's not identical content wise with Melodiya (doesn't include Stepan Razin, but includes both violin concertos and live 13th as a bonus) and I don't know if the mastering is the same.

There's one on eBay UK, £30+

I would hold out for the newer Melodiya box (not the Melodiya/BMG from the 90s).  I'd bet they will reprint it.
