This poll does not include a "neither" option. Choose one or the other; if you feel you cannot, in good conscience, do not cast a vote.

For purposes of this poll, even if you have not heard the Elgar, it is acceptable to vote for the Beethoven;  you are considered to have voted with your ears.

Voting closes 1 September.

Anyone caught taking this poll over-seriously will be raspberried.

The answer, of course, lies in vibrational fields, Karl.  8)

A month of voting?  Of course it's Fidelio.

The Apostles hands down. It's the greatest music ever!  :)

Fidelio, naturally. I've got to go with the cross-dresser here.

Cross-dressing is an honorable theatrical tradition.

Cross-dressing is an honorable theatrical tradition.

And a disgusting one at that.  I'll never understand why audiences like to look at men dressed as women.

I was actually thinking of Viola disguised as "Cesario" in Twelfth Night.

But then, of course, in Shakespeare's day that meant a male actor playing a female character impersonating a man.

[I was expecting three votes for the Elgar, and more or less expecting them to be cast early on.]

I would think of Rosalind in As You Like It, where a boy actor plays a female character impersonating a man who pretends to be a woman.

Poll: I voted for Fidelio, of course. What a silly question.

What?  No option for Stockhausen's Licht;D

The Apostles may not be Elgar's greatest work (then again, it may be), but at least it's better than that would-be opera Fidelio. ;)

To me The Apostles is Elgar's greatest work. Nevertheless, almost any work by Elgar beats Fidelio:P

Missa Solemnis would provide much tougher competion...

You and 71 dB have much in common.  Just an observation.

If Stockhausen comes in, then so must Pfitzner's glorious Palestrina and Henze's El CimarrĂ³n.

Don't make me suggest Kagel's Exotica. It isn't beyond my capabilities.

Time for steel cage grudge match!  Stockhausen vs. Pfitzner vs. Palestrina vs. Henze vs. Kagel vs. Dittersdorf vs. Elgar vs. Beethoven vs. Tammy Wynette (OK, I just thought she might have fun.).
