Archaic Torso of Apollo

Very cool, Misha!
I haven't seen the GPO in a few years, used to go every year since my brother joined them but having a child has decreased my trips up north. I figured Bruckner 6 is a good one to return for.

I'll look into that Bruckner 6 as well. Although my trips downtown have been decreased by living in a far-out suburb.

Let's just hope you travel in good weather, unlike your Parsifal trip.  ;)

INDIANAPOLIS starts out  with the "not again!" type of season but  shortly gets quite interesting, includes HINDEMITH Die Harmonie der Welt  + The Planets,  SZYMANOWSKI Symphony 4 (Concertante), GINASTERA Estancia, a couple of commissioned works, 'Atmosphères' and  'Zarathustra' together...

And don't forget Pulitzer-prize-winner and Rice University alumna Caroline Shaw, with a new violin concerto. Now THAT is exciting!

The last two concerts of the season are knockouts.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra finally announced its 2015-16 season, and it's disappointing.

Beethoven No.7, Petrushka, Brahms No.1 and No.3, Strauss' Till Eulenspiegel, Sibelius No.2, Brahms Violin Concerto, Brahms Piano Ct. No1..are some of the highlights, and these are great works...but these have all been programmed last year or the year before. I saw Beethoven 7th, Petrushka and Sibelius 2nd in the 2014-15, and Brahms 1st symphony and PC in the 2013-14 season.
There are a few nice concerts, one with Symphonie Fantastique, which I could never get tired of seeing, and Glass' VC no.2 which I would LOVE to see live. Also, Carlos Kalmar, my friends in Chicago and Oregon know the name, is conducting the Brahms/Schoenberg Quartet for Piano and Strings in G minor for orchestra, another I would like to see.
But overall it's disappointing to see so many reoccurring works after just a year or two of playing them last.

The lack of interesting programming is exactly why I don't go and see the ASO. I'm yawning just thinking about this season. I really wish ASO had some more adventurous management. I know some of these workhorses will bring in an audience, but I'm not going to pay for a concert of works I can see in any city that has a good orchestra. I also don't think Spano is that great of a conductor and have been disappointed by their lack of recordings and also the lack of any kind of promotion. Anyway, I won't say anymore as I want to be supportive of this orchestra, but, with this kind of programming, it's quite difficult for me to cheer them on.
