A Go Go was my introduction, too (or was it Bump?). Had me hooked from the first sound. (Link fixed, thanks for noticing.)

You probably already know about it but Medeski, Martin & Wood - the band on A Go Go - released Shackman shortly before, and was what got Scofield's attention.  They've released several others with Scofield, but those two are classic.

Over the weekend:

"HARMONY" is by the Sam Harris trio (pianist of Ambrose Akinmusire's quartet, see below) - very nice album, alas only released digitally via bandcamp. Got the Shearing Trio MPS set just in time before it went oop, played some of the first album (depicted next to the CD set) late last night.

Tonight, three from the kitchen of Gigi Campi, from the wonderful Clarke/Boland centred reissue series on Rearward/Schema/Ishtar:

Tomorrow night: Ambrose Akinmusire in concert!  ;D

Then I chose wisely.  8)

I tend to enjoy the trio tracks most - Gene Taylor and Louis Hayes, make a great rhythm section with Silver.  St. Vitus Dance, e.g., really swings.  Blue Mitchell is another stand out, often over-looked trumpeter.

The album came out in 1959, a banner year for jazz with Kind of Blue, Ornette Coleman's first and Mingus Ah Umm.  I haven't looked but I'm sure there were other great albums that year, I should look it up.

Here's more jazz that came out in 1959:

Chet Baker – Chet (Riverside)
Dave Brubeck – Time Out (album) (Columbia)
John Coltrane – Giant Steps (Atlantic)
Coleman Hawkins – Hawk Eyes, (OJC)
Milt Jackson and John Coltrane – Bags & Trane (Atlantic)
Thelonious Monk – The Thelonious Monk Orchestra at Town Hall,(Riverside/OJC)
Art Pepper – Art Pepper + Eleven – Modern Jazz Classics (Contemporary/OJC)

Wow, that's a lot of classics. I own a lot of them.  8)

Your last few postings have included some really excellent music.  Joe Henderson on Sidewinder was a major influence on the generation of sax players that broke onto the scene during the 70s and 80s.

Thanks, I appreciate it. It is a great album for sure.
