Are you streaming all of the recently posted Ellington albums or do you physically have them in your collection?

Physically have them. I've recently been on a reacquiring binge, helped along by a secondhand cd store suddenly having a huge amount including many seldom seen ones, probably all from one persons former collection.

Not that I mind streaming stuff as well.

Edit: and now:

I do not have as much exposure to the music of Basie as I do to the music of Ellington.
I do enjoy listening to Basie.

Yes, easy but interesting listening.

Btw, his autobiography is a fun read!

There were two Basie Orchestras, referred to as the Old and New (or First and Second) Testament bands. Different as night and day. (More than two, really. After all, they're still together.)

The pre-war band generally played head arrangements, usually evolving out of jam sessions and repeated until codified. By contrast, the later band was known for their much more complex arrangements, often commissioned from the top arrangers of the day.

Both are amazing to listen to, but they are very different experiences.

Though I love blues music in general, I personally prefer the modern Basie Orchestra with the arrangers like Neal Hefti, Frank Foster, etc..

I have the disc somewhere in my house. I will check it out. I dig Django. Btw (again), I think the book below is a nice read.

P.s. Not a big fan of Grappelly and I tend to focuse on Django recordings without him.
