Dont think I've encountered a Django track called "Inprovisations on Tchaikovsky's Pathetique" before.

I do not believe that I have any of Django's albums in my collection. Perhaps one, maybe. I will have to check.

Earlier:

Arguably the two least essential of all Ellington's studio albums, this pair of reworkings of popular hits of the age (including Bob Dylan and The Beatles). Nevertheless everyone plays with more polish and professionalism than the project deserves, and the first manages to have two or three standout tracks anyway, especially "The Second Time Around"

Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald: Autumn In New York

This is a case of two Greats having a great time together performing standards. Both artists are very relaxed and laid back and this makes for both good music making and very easy listening. They have a great backing ensemble behind them. The piano player is a particular stand out for me; understated but very effective, in my opinion. Both Ella and Louis are in good form here!

My first time hearing this fine album.

Misleadingly titled - its actually a studio recording.

Avishai Cohen: Seven Seas

I do not quite know how to explain this music [first time hearing it]. The best that I can do is to perhaps define it as modern, easy jazz with vocalise and vocals. The musical sound world can be very interesting and often inventive and exciting in itself. The big let down for me is the occasional da-di-da vocalise element. What is the point? Write some lyrics or just leave it out!

I'm glad Ellington made only one of these excursions, and there's an argument to be made that its in every way as unessential as the two pop covers lps, yet unlike those I've come to find this one charming and it actually gets a fairly regular play.

I'm trying to remember or work out without checking which album has "Love Scene", but I'm not getting it.

Duke wrote it for Tony Bennett; it first appeared on a Bennett album (Jet Set).

Thanks! I'll have to check that one out!

John Coltrane: The Prestige Recordings CD 14

(Original album, and recording date, for each track listed in parentheses)

CD 14:

Rise 'N' Shine (Settin' the Pace – 3/26/58)
I See Your Face Before Me (Settin' the Pace – 3/26/58)
If There Is Someone Lovelier Than You (Settin' the Pace – 3/26/58)
Little Melonae (Settin' the Pace – 3/26/58)
By The Numbers (The Last Trane – 3/26/58)
Black Pearls (Black Pearls – 5/23/58)

There is terrific music making, particularly from the backing ensemble on the tracks from "Settin' the Pace". I have checked the instrumentalists involved and they appear to be Paul Chambers on bass, Art Taylor on drums and Red Garland on piano [Garland's piano playing is stand out for me!].

Oscar Peterson [Supreme Jazz]

There is a great sense of exciting swing permeating this album. Most enjoyable!

I have not heard too much of Oscar Peterson's work so I must remedy that.
