Autumn Leaves

Just an update to this thread - I had my first problem with my FiiOX1 today after 2 years of trouble free use.
Its probably my fault - I was multi-tasking the player by copying some music files to it while changing the artwork for an album at the same time and the player threw a bit of a wobbly.
Anyway long story short is I now have a corrupt folder on the player which I cant delete or repair with Windows tools - the player is also having problems copying and deleting music files.
I could probably re-format the Disc and maybe that might solve the problem but I don't want to do that just at the moment as it will take ages to copy all the music back to the player again.
So a warning to other FiiOX1 users - don't multi-task your player! :)

OK, thanks. How do you know it's not a problem with your card? Try another one perhaps?

Yeah I think its probably the card too - im going to re-format it and copy all the music back when I have some free time this weekend.
Hopefully that should fix the problem - ill post here to let yourself and others know if the fix was successful or not.

Autumn Leaves

I tried the Windows repair tools on my FiiOX1 again today and they worked this time so no more problems :)

Autumn Leaves

My trusty FiiO X1 died this morning - It wont power on any more. I tried using the re-set but to no avail. Strangely I was able to charge the battery so that wasn't the problem.
I got about 2 1/2 years out of my player so it didn't last as long as an iPod but it was a lot cheaper so Im not too upset.
I bought a new FiiO X1 earlier in the year so I got it out of the box and using it now - the new one is a bit fancier looking than my old one and they seemed to have solved the problem where the media library would only update to a maximum of 5800 tracks.
I really like the FiiO X1 because I think it sounds very good and I prefer using buttons and a scroll wheel rather than a touch screen to move around the music folders.
I took the SD card out of my old player and just plonked it in the new one - it worked fine and there was no problem reading the files so I didn't have to copy all the music back to the new player.
Anyway I hope I get a bit longer out of this new player - Im not sure Ill buy a new one after this. I resisted buying a smartphone so far because I don't really like mobile phones but I may just have to join the herd and use one when this player dies.

Does anyone have any experience with the new generation x5 mark III that is run on android?  I am interested in it, but some of the reviews seem...not too pleasant.  Most of the talk is about poor firmware....

I will also be interested in that, since I have one coming my way in a few weeks courtesy of a friend. Reviews seem typical FiiO in the sense that other than the interface, it is superior technology all around. Since I will never use a 240 gig card anyway (I would far rather put my files on eight 32 gig cards) the slowness of library indexing and searching for tracks is inconsequential for me. With the latest firmware upgrade and an easily indexible size of card, I am looking forward to the great SQ that this unit achieves. So if anyone has some experience beyond reading the Amazon reviews, please share. :)

I am interested in the X5 myself, mostly because of the two media slots--with 512 giggity giggity bytes

It would hold my entire collection of 1500+ (FLAC) recordings (new LPs being digitized all the time).

For now, I am still very happy with the X1, which I've had for over 2.5 years. I use it nearly every day. I actually like the hard buttons as well because I can control much of what I need without looking at the screen. I am not a huge fan of touch screens for many things (I actually preferred the Blackberry to touch-screen phones)

The X7 does not interest me all that much because I don't even know what half of these features are, and don't want to pay the extra money for them.

As was the case for Autumn Leaves above, my Fiio X1 died last night after about 2 years 10 months. Won't power on; isn't recognized by my PC when I plug in the usb. I fully charged it a couple days ago and the LED light does go on when plugged in. I guess I'm just SOL. Considering it was a hundred bucks and worked perfectly and sounded great, I think I got my money's worth--although I was hoping it would have lasted longer.

I just ordered a new X1 generation II to replace it. Will just take my 128 Gb card out of the old one and use it in the new one. Likely will get a 256 GB card eventually. I am not really interested in their higher-end models, and I like using hard buttons and not having a touch screen. Also, the other ones have tons of capabilities I'm not even interested in at this point and can surf the web, display e-books, etc--all the stuff I want to get away from when I listen to music!

The Cowan player looks good at about $200, but I am in no mood to mess around with a whole new system/instruction manual at this point--maybe later? Anyone own a Cowan?

OK, so like a dumbass, I bought a new X1 Gen 2, and then, while I was on the Fiio site to get the latest firmware, I stumbled across their support page and found that one can reset the X1 Gen 1 by sticking a needle into the reset hole. Sure enough that worked! I am glad the player came back to life, but now am wondering what to do with the new one!

Anyway, to the poster above and anyone else with a Fiio, try this. The player wasn't dead, just in need of a reset!

I would keep it on standby; the old one won't last forever. I know the new X3 & X5 have bluetooth and the last gen didn't. Maybe the X1 has that too?  Since I use a bluetooth earbud (superbeatz II) when I do my daily 5 mile, that cuts down on my hardware needs. I know it's a waste of SQ, but those buds are made for walking, and that's just what I do, one of these days those buds are gonna walk all... oh, sorry, carried away. :D
