Filtration is the key, mon cher!
I misread that as Flirtation first. Can't say it would make much sense.  ::)

OTOH, for many Facebook users, maybe flirtation is the key . . . .

Sometimes a discreet, well-placed flirt or gallantry is exactly what's needed. ;)

Right. The key is not the largest part of the door . . . .

I use Twitter as a source of news and I like to chat about topics occasionally through the service. The "block" feature is the single best and worst thing about Twitter. Yes, it's satisfying to block obnoxious people, at the same time this tool can be abused to create your own bubble from which anyone who disagrees with you is immediately shut out. I guess that's the appeal of Twitter--allowing all people to create their own bubbles where anyone who takes issue with their opinions is blocked. I've been blocked by conservatives and liberals in an unashamed knee-jerk way that indicates fear of debate.

Yup, I'm with this guy all the way. This is what I get out of Twitter and really I don't mind at all.

Besides GMG, I'm on Facebook, but I really don't use it that much. I talk to a few people there and have had good conversations through the years. Like Greg said, it's a good way to keep in contact with someone. I don't make any posts on there like "Right now I'm brushing my teeth" or something stupid like that as no one needs to know what I'm doing or even where I'm going or where I've been. You have to draw the line somewhere and mundane day-to-day stuff is where I draw that line.
This is very much my situation too in regards to my use of social media. Facebook basically allows me to stay in contact with former students who want to contact me and occasionally it has been useful.

Whether it makes Twitter great or not, I much enjoyed this piece.

Not to be an anti-progressive, but the brevity is what makes it interesting and challenging. I could write the history of MN Dave's screen name changes in 10,000 characters!  OK, last year's anyway.  :)  I can see an expansion, but 10,000 characters is ridiculous. *sigh*

This MN Dave sounds like quite an interesting chap.

Gurn, you only have to read the first 140!
