Greetings from the cold north!

I'm ptr (my first name without vowels), I've been lurking here for a few weeks, SimonNZ turned me in the direction of this community. Recognize a few user names from a similar site that I've frequented for a few years, kind of felt that it was time to see if there are greener or other sorts of grass on the other side of the fence! (I've been on the internet since 1997 discussing classical music in various forms from alt.music.classical.general and .shostakovich to Classical Net MCML and other mailing lists, when I got a new job in 2003-4 I sort of lost track of these and other things then music to presence.)

I'm fairly well informed music geek, play a bit of piano and organ, schooled at the keyboard through my teens but as it turned out I was way to lacy to put in the hours of practice to become a performer. As a side trck at university I took (an extra) masters in Musicology, music theory and composition just because I think music is such fun (I don't practise any of it other then for my own amusement!)

My musical interests are Mahler and later with an emphasis on more contemporary music. I have, like most people You meet in this kind of environment had periods of listening to "ye olde musicke", but I notice that the older I get the more selective I get with what performances I can stand. Have been "collecting" records since the early 1970-ties, I shall not say that I prefer vinyl, but I generally feel that it is more fun to spinn LP's. One of my more of beat passions is the sound of then grand pipe organs, I sometimes call myself a certified OrgaNut, I have spent many restless holiday on the hunt for new organ experience. Not the least religious, but I'm vastly grateful to the Christians that have enabled this! Organs rock!

Hi ptr and welcome. There are a few organ enthusiasts here. (I like the instrument, mostly in 20th and 21st-century music.) But in any case, enjoy yourself and have a good time here.

Welcome indeed ptr, and all this time I believed "certified OrgaNut" to be a reference to organic food. Silly me.   Glad to see you, old friend.

I never really liked the taste of those inorganic nuts

Hello and welcome, ptr!  Have you heard Sibelius's Funeral music, Op. 111 for organ?  8)

Never quite understood why You English speaking call it "Organic" food, as no matter what we eat very little is inorganic! (even if you use an inorganic fertilizer, the food that is grown is still organic).. Never mind..  :-\

OrgaNut is just fun with words loosing that middle "n"! Anyway it is supposed to hint at Argonauts, in my case someone who will travel to listen to organs.. Totally confusing, but my kind of bending the rules fun!

Thanks for the additional welcomes!

Not a Sibelius work I return to very often, I believe that I have one or two recordings of it, (Both on Bis), have heard the "Intrada" (part 1) several times live, me thinks, (part 2) "Funeral" is performed less frequently, on the top of my head I can only recall having heard it live once (on the Virtanen organ in Åbo Domkyrka/Turun tuomiokirkko). I have actually forgotten who played, possibly the Cantor, this was 20 years ago and my memory for "names" ain't getting any better!  :blank:

Mr. Three Putt

Ptr and the Organauts. I didn't realize organic had other meanings. I simply thought it another word for expensive. Ok, my two attempts at humor, and it's very early. Anyway, welcome again.

Hullo, ptr. Nice to see you here.
