This beauty below got a second straight spin today without me listening to anything else off my shelf.  What's the last cd that you gave a second spin?  Or, do you double or triple up every or most listens?  (Now I know Brian and Harry might for the writing, and maybe Gurn and others who blog or write about the music professionally.)  However, just curious as I found the second straight listen very enjoyable.

One of those where you hope that nothing interrupts the moment while you are listening.  The Pie Jesu on this recording is especially transporting to say the least.  You know, what it reminds me of, and mostly due to the voice of the soloist, is a queue from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack by Howard Shore.  (Any other Shore nuts here that might be able to do a comparison?) The queue to which I refer is right after the death of Gandalf the grey.  Either way, a gorgeous recording of this piece.

If you mean back-to-back listens:

I can't recall the last classical recording I listened to back-to-back.

I am the same.  I only noted this as this was a first time is so long that I cannot remember the last time I did it.  (Also changed the title for clarity.  Thanks, Todd.)

Is Faure really as good as the great Howard Shore?

Shore by three lengths, but Gabriel is showing promise.  ;)

Hi Bill - when I receive 'new' CDs, I'll listen to them 2-3 times before filing in my collection, but usually over several days rather than 'back to back' - otherwise, I'd have to say no to your question.  Dave :)

What a coincidence! Today was the first time in MONTHS!

I hadn't listened to any Janacek since September 8, so I listened to Taras Bulba twice in a row (Kubelik). However, Back to Back Listens are something I usually only do 1-2 times per year.

My personal record was in 2010, when I listened to Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony (Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Thomas Dausgaard) an amazing FOUR times in a row. Could never do that now...or could I?

I don't actually play CDs anymore, but I have listened to Paul Lewis' Beethoven on iTunes for days on end. Similar occurrences with Abbado's Mahler, some of Bernstein's Mahler, the Emerson String Quartet, and Shostakovich's String Quartets.

When I'm trying to decide which version of something I like best, I will put one work on iTunes by different performers, and hit "shuffle."

I listen to each and every disc or boxset I own at least twice or thrice.  There are items, though, that have been listened to tens or even hundreds of times and many, many more times they´ll be.

Usually not, yet these two recent acquisitions earned an immediate repeat on my CD player:

I do back to backs and more on a regular basis while driving.  I've had one of the Shebalin St. Qt. discs (Olympia) going in my car for a few months now - it just keeps on going.

The answer for me is no. I like to give a disc its first listen and then put it away for a bit to let the music and performance sink in. Then when I return to it I like to see if I have a different perception of the performance or the music.

I wouldn't say I make a habit of doing back-to-back listening. I have done it several times of course. I think the most I listened to a work back-to-back was Berg's Violin Concerto (the Mutter/Levine performance). I listened to it 11 times in a row.

I can't remember ever listening to a specific piece back to back. Possibly the same Mahler symphony with different recordings? Possibly Schoenberg's Book of Hanging Gardens or Gorecki's 3rd when I was into them 9 years ago? Possibly an Elliott Carter piece seeing if I could memorize it?

But I talked to this guy once who claimed he listened to my favorite non-classical album (Meshuggah's Catch 33) 19 times in a row. He also said they were all 7 feet tall, but when I saw them, they looked more in the range of 6'-6'6." So not a trustworthy source.  ::)

Same here, Don.  It started a new spin and I did not want to eject it and start something new.
