Have you seen these new Dash buttons? Simply place it wherever you want (your ass is likely getting pretty crowded with all the new IOT/Bluetooth rectal thermometers), and push the button, and Skynet Amazon, will deliver to your door within seconds (After notifying Zukcerberg, the NSA, your health insurer, life insurer, the local police, the FBI, and every one of your Facebook "friends"!!)

There are many products with such dash buttons available. It seems very cool on one hand, but kind of invasive on another. It is well known that the further divorced a person's purchasing decision is from actual money, the more they are likely to spend. Going into the store and paying for this shite with cash will likely result in your spending a lot less than pushing a button that communicates to your phone that communicates to your Amazon account, that is linked to your cc. This will likely result in your becoming poorer--and perhaps in some cases fatter--much fatter. One can only imagine the yokels during Superbore Sunday frantically pressing their Budweiser, Cheetos, and CHeese Whiz dash buttons!!

While I have no interest in any of the products on offer, nor in such a service yet, it seems to me that this type of service could actually be useful for some elderly and disabled people if the right products are offered.  It might be too early to hastily dismiss such a service with an anti-consumerism tirade.

I actually agree with you. Obviously, anyone using any type of connected technology must weigh benefits of convenience/safety/savings (time and money) with potential for loss of privacy, and becoming the victim of identity theft, hacking, and the like. Of course automated delivery has its advantages even for (relatively) young people like me. As I get older, I find I detest driving, fighting traffic, crowds, lines, and such more and more each day--I do as much Xmas shopping online and as little in stores as possible. Nevertheless, I am more than a bit fearful that all this continual erosion of privacy is leading us into very dangerous territory.

No argument there.  Amazon seems to have a reasonably good record with respect to identity theft.  In terms of loss of privacy with respect to shopping habits, the only way to maintain that while shopping today is to use cash at (small) stores with no cameras.  Credit and debit card companies know all.
