In my world, Varèse is always welcome. The Chailly/Concertgebouw 2-CD set is one of my all-time favorite recordings.

In any case, hope you enjoy your time at GMG - lots of knowledgeable and interesting people here.

Good to hear, and you're a Varèse fan too even better.

In the 1970s, one of my first new music experiences was in (believe it or not) Dallas, Texas, where the Dallas Symphony Orchestra had a series called "Gamut," with nothing but contemporary music. On one of the concerts was Poème électronique, completely fascinating.

Welcome aboard, Eddie! Your screen name looks awfully familiar (or I may be mistaken). Anyway, also count me as a fan of Varèse. 8) Any other composers you enjoy?

P.S. Here's a good avatar for you:

Thanks Mirror Image, screen name would be very familiar from another classical music site. Good another fan of Varèse. I like his unending pursuit of new sounds and forms in music particularly the early use of electronics.

Other composers mostly modern: Pierre Boulez, Frank Zappa, Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis for example.

Good pic of Varèse but I will keep my current one thanks. Note it is the face of a younger Varèse superimposed on to 1970's Australian Python styled TV character Aunty Jack see pic below
