Can we save the C# minor quartet and say it was written by somebody else?

Like, Mozart$:)

Well, if I had to chose (sic), I would chose the anonymous journeyman who wrote

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhexf10MDd8

- a piece which all church music directors, including mine, seem to think is wonderful (or perhaps just easy).  Even the girl in the front row who starts off tapping her foot loses (or should that be looses?) interest about a minute in.  I just hope it's not Tallis on an off-day.

I have a similar hatred of a gallingly insipid "sacred song," and I mean a severe hatred, a hatred that makes me want to throw bricks at old ladies, toss puppies into puddles of tar, and boot orphans out of the orphanage on Christmas!  ??? :o ??? :o ??? :o

So I would choose the musical criminal responsible for that monstrosity!  $:)

Concerning Karl's nomination of Philip Glass:

I love you, Karl.

0:) Amen!  0:)

Besides the above, I would suggest...

This is bizarre

It is.  Still if I must choose it's actually a very easy and clear choice. Schoenberg.

When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."

More for what was done with his ideas than for his own work.
His work needs to be saved from his more odious followers. There's a point.

Some ideas to get you started:

An amusing concept, presumably dreamed up by the OAE's marketing staff (and PS, the OAE is also pretty funny on Twitter), but too bad about poor Shostakovich, getting slammed - twice! The last word, from Tony Pay (clarinet), speculating on how history might have been altered if his father had one less cup of tea on the night Tony was conceived - hilarious and perceptive.

But I wouldn't eliminate any composer, even ones I don't listen to that often. Love Chopin's solo piano works; can't stand either of the piano concertos. Mozart's operas are extraordinary; don't need to hear the violin concertos again any time soon.

Philip Glass

There, I said it.  That feels better.

Thanks for saying Glass. Thanks for saying Glass. Thanks for saying Glass... :)

My pick is Stockhausen. He wasn't that important and his music is just...umm..well...it's just there, but yet some people think he's some kind of deity.

Pfft. Good luck justifying that statement.
