Hi Spineur, an ignorant Frenchman you say, well there's a first.  I never knew there was such a thing  ;)  The accent is called a fada and changes the 'ah' sound to 'aw'.  Seán is the Irish for John, whilst Sean is the Irish for old.  So, of course, I'm called Seán.
