A thread in which I will make glib insightful comments and/or offer unsolicited advice on any scarf you currently wear or are thinking of wearing. I'm qualified for this role in a number of ways, but I feel the main one is that apparently as far as scarves are concerned I'm the male equivalent of 'Chick with too many pairs of shoes and handbags'.

Note: if you must, treat this as a stealth thread which allows you to drop hints about how much cash you drop on your scarves. But know that if you do so then while I'm complimenting your scarf I'm also guffawing to the nth degree.

Okay, I'm brave enough to go first.
99.83% of the time I wear a leather jacket, T-shirt, chinos and Chelsea boots. And underwear, of course. But I also wear a silk scarf. As ever, there are exceptions; in winter, cashmere (or if I'm slumming it and sitting in the terrace instead of the stalls, merino) usually makes an appearance. But silk is where it's at.

Depending on the colour(s) of the fit I'm wearing, I usually choose one of these two -

- with the burgundy being a favourite, both with me and the ladies. And it's always tied in a French/Parisian/European/whatever-it's called-down-your-way knot, which must be as casual as possible and not fussed with in front of the mirror at all.

But all scarves are cool and good. I don't care if it's 'ready to wear' or a relic from your college/university days or a piece from the catwalk or an old favourite that your grandmother made with love to keep you warm. All are equal in this thread.

That'll do for now. Please feel free to post with your own favourite scarves/knots/celeb scarf wearing or denouncements of  'Typical European... Scarves are for the womenfolks!'

When it's cold, this.

That's actually quite mature and restrained, smart yet casual. A fine choice. And do you have a knot you particularly favour?

Thanks, you seem surprised.  ;D
Ah, knots.. yeah, I keep it simple - the right hand (longer) side of the scarf goes over the left, and then out. Simple, fast, and keeps all of visible the pattern straight too.

Are you insinuating that I have ever called your taste into question? :o ;D

Okay, perhaps my above comment was made in haste...

But thank you for your contribution. :) Do feel free any time to post any other scarves you own or have seen and any ideas, thoughts or dare I say it, theories you may have about scarves.  ;D

Well you would say that, if all of your scarf experience is from those wimpy silk scarves.   >:D It has plenty of heft like that.

Hush your mouth!

:o

So, you want heft?  Okay, I'm going to rise to that challenge.

One with no scarves?
Pretty much. If it weren't for cold weather, I'd never own one.

It hasn't even been cold enough this winter in my neck of the woods to wear a scarf. :( We have some cold weather coming in next week, so maybe I can premiere my new scarf then! 8)

I can't find a picture of my new scarf, but it's all black with a grey and white stripe on both ends.

So, it seems you're a seasonal scarf wearer. Fair enough. Your scarf sounds cool and versatile. :)
Pity it's weather dependant though - I mean, you have that leather jacket and some kind of casual scarf would work with it really well. Just a thought, man... ;D

Well, we've only had a few days that were cold. I don't wear a leather jacket (or any kind of jacket for that matter) unless it's really cold outside. I tend to get hot easily, so anytime I don't have to wear a lot of clothes is a good day for me. ;)

I don't know, man...all of that kind of sounds like a convoluted way of saying "I don't want to wear a scarf". And as a result, I think you'll need to go on the watchlist for a while.  :-\ ;D

We kinda touched on the subject before so I'm afraid I'm mostly gonna repeat myself.

I wear scarves often autumn through spring, much less so in the summer. For cold weather I prefer large cashmere pashminas, paisley patterned or solid, in strong but not too bright colors (deep reds, old gold ...) to offer strong enough contrast with black, black and white or grey coats but avoiding looking hippie or too ethnic. Like this one for instance:

Tend to avoid tying them in knots, prefer just wrapped and ruffled, again in contrast with neatness of coat/jacket lines, or just wrapped around if there's no coat/jacket. Something like this:

I rarely wear scarf in summer, but lately I've been liking those very casual Alexander McQueen silk skull print scarfs (dia de la muertos inspired I presume) so I'm planning to get one (cheaply if possible) for this summer. Like this one:

And no scarf related topic should exist without this picture:

That's a fine, fine contribution indeed. Thank you for that, Draško.   8)   :)

And if we take nothing else from such an interesting, informative and stylish post, it's at the very least made it abundantly clear that all of us scarf wearers are part of a very broad church. :)

I have a couple of scarves in the closet, which I have not worn in years.  The climate here is just too warm, and I'm not hipster enough to get away with wearing a scarf over a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops. :P

Do have two leather jackets, which I get to wear when the weather dives down below 60F, but that's not very often.

Spineur

Many types of scarves, many possible uses.  The ones I like best are the real long ones to lengthen a silhouette like

I'm not hipster enough for anything, but it doesn't stop me. Try wearing that combo? And if no one likes it - the hell with them  ;D
I do take your point about the hot weather, though.
Yeah, leather jackets (as ever, leather jackets that fit) are always cool. Good stuff.  8)
