...as easy to learn as your ABCs...

Curiously, the first I heard that song, was a Zappa album . . . Sting guest-sang "Murder By Numbers" one night on their 1988 tour.

Pop doesn't get much better than that.  0:)

Soundwise, it's the worst I have ever heard the Beatles sound.

It's based on a novel by a man named Lear . . . .

You an audio engineer? It's not bad or poor 'sound quality' at all, far, far from it ... and the most important thing shines thru, the music.

+1

It sure is lovely. I wish that the stereo remasters had been treated with the same loving care.

Oh I'd love to watch you squirm to the *sound qualities* of my bootleg collection, even tho some of it contains some of the most AMAZING music & performances you'll ever 'hear'.

Audiophiles are good at squirming AND hand-wringing.

I guess that's become part of the album now, but it was a bonus track included on the cassette version only.

I ordered this for my dad for Christmas, and am listening to it now. Sadly, a very obscure guitarist despite the fact that his stuff is very, very good instrumental rock.

I've tried searching for him (no luck on facebook), but I did find something very interesting:

Apparently he was a contestant on Deal or No Deal:o It also says he is a master bagpipe maker and a bodybuilder. I want to contact him to tell him to make another album (this album is his second and last album, and it was released in 2000), but I can't find him anywhere online.

The first of Esoteric's (relatively) easy-going albums - its stripping back of some of the band's trademark improvisatory/psychedelic/screwed up elements does make the album sound more cohesive, especially as it's only a single CD. Very nice and consistent production as well, which especially benefits the stand-out melodic song (linked above - don't check if you hate extreme metal :P) which has that kind of relentless weight that the band does better than any other I've encountered.

Edit: Having almost finished this, I had forgotten what a hypnotic and organic experience it is. In this album the band's typical interest in going beyond the usual genre templates manifests itself in a different way than in their previous output. Earlier they had some extremely cold sounding albums punctuated with a variety of different ideas, but in this one they produce three extremely transcendental songs in which their three guitarists produce extremely layered, complex sounds that have far more momentum and structure and also a more singular atmosphere which helps provide a unifying feel. I love the older double albums but their main appeal was with each track being battered and getting lost in whatever the band throws at you, in this one you are swept along instead. I remember going for a walk with the album on repeat a few winters ago, it felt like I was on drugs or something when I realised how late I had stayed out.

The Bobs, Coaster

Beginning with a tasty arrangement of "Caravan."
