That's the three CD set, right? I compiled it a couple of years back, adding a few album tracks "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters," I now forget the others. I loved it so much that I bought his first ten albums or so. S/T, Tumbleweed and Honky Chateau are all incredible albums. Tumbleweed I would go so far as to call a perfect album.

Mine is the 2CD (I think the special edition has a bonus CD with some duets) version. I have always been wary of getting a complete studio album of his for some reason even though I have pretty much loved every song I've heard from him from the 70's. I think I should get his 70s albums. I'm sure I am missing a lot of gems.

Yeah, baby!  8)

There's a nasty, gaping hole in my collection, in the form of the first Procol Harum album...   :'(

I got the newest Westside reissue for the first two albums.  They each have bonus tracks, the first one 10, the second has 8. Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand these masterings are as good as it gets for these two albums on CD.

I also understood the Westside's to be the best masterings.  I have the Westside Shine on Brightly.  However, I thought they were OOP, hard to find, and expensive (which is why I haven't got the first album).  Aren't the Repertoire's the current in-print CDs?  I had Home on Repertoire before I got the MFSL, and it was pretty loud and compressed.

Westside OOP? Really? I got mine not more than 6 months ago from a third party amazon seller. I know nothing of the Repertoire issues.

Still some decent used copies of the first on on Westside to be had here for under $24 - quick!

Maiden spin. Better than I expected, given the reviews.

Yeah it's a bit confusing, but as far as I can tell, they're both European labels and their Procol CDs have never been available in the US.  The band's catalogue has certainly been poorly represented on CDUni for the over 10 years I've been looking at it.   Currently there's a Beat Goes On twofer with the first two albums on it listed on CDUni - I have no idea what mastering that might use.

My records indicate I purchased Shine on Brightly and Home new in September 2007 from a UK-based e-tailer called 101cd.com.  The former CD turned out to be the Westside while the latter was the Repertoire.  Both are listed as first being issued in the late 90's.  I'm pretty sure if I bought the debut album from there now I'd get the Repertoire.  Those Amazon prices aren't too bad George - I ummed and ahhed over a copy for sale on sh.tv a few months ago that was listed at around $35.  I'll do some more umming and ahhing now :)

I have the same albums in the Media Doubles series (all four first albums on two Cds) and the difference in the mastering is small, the Repertoire being better of course, plus it has the bonus tracks, many of which are great.

Dr. Dread

Very '70s-looking cover there, Georgey.
