James Vincent McMorrow: Early In The Morning

McMorrow is an Irish singer-songwriter. This particular album comes from 2010. I like his voice and the quality of the song writing along with the arranging and the production are all excellent. It is a very interesting album and it is definitely worth a listen.

Tous les garçons et les filles. Françoise Hardy.

Mix Ringside (sans Getty money), Beck, Thievery Corporation, and this is the result, though it lacks the production values of any of the cited artists, and qualitatively can't hold a candle to Beck, let along the Corporation.  The music is nice and groovy, and the lyrics waver between middling and pretty good.  The singing is the weakest link.

Thank you for that PD. Much appreciated.  :)
You're welcome.

And, crumbs, I saw my friend briefly earlier but I forgot to ask him about it.  Will do so next week when things have calmed down at his end.  :)

Aion would be my favorite Dead Can Dance, possibly because it has a higher concentration of their medieavalist tendencies. But their entire discography is strong. One of those too rare artists that you can explore in any order without hazard.

The collection A Passage In Time is a very well chosen single disc sampler of their first five albums and can be easily recommended to anyone uncertain

No problem PD. Do not put any pressure on yourself on my behalf.

No worries, thanks.

The friend that I was referring to, his middle daughter is getting married this weekend, so it's keeping him busy...but in a good way.  :)

Nice to know.  Thanks, I'll keep those albums in mind...and will do some more googling (youtube) when I have some more time.  I did notice (and watched some time ago) that there is a least one video of them performing live.  Oh!  There are a bunch of them!  https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dead+can+dance+live

A favorite album of mine when I was growing up.

There's an interesting story about the place where that photo was taken.  Trying to remember where I read about it.  His grandfather built it and if I'm recalling correctly, he built it to be like a medieval castle (complete with a dungeon!).

I find their singles to be impeccable..

Relistening to Dead Can Dance's first two albums after they were mentioned a few days ago. The first is a damn fine album, even if overlapping with the soundworld of pretty much everything 4AD were doing around the time. The second is their unique voice undiluted, their creativity and execution fully formed.

and now:

Vieux Farka Touré and Khruangbin - Ali (2022)

Covers of songs by Ali Farka Toure (Vieux's father)

Thanks especially for the comments about the Dead Can Dance albums.  :)  I'll have to read more about 4AD; I know that there's a book out on the label (tempted to get it for a gift for my friend who loves many of their artists' music).

I saw that book once but stupidly didn't get it. I was thinking about it today, wondering if it says anything about how DCD felt about that first album.

Are you familiar with The Cocteau Twins?
