Back but undecided yet

Hello everybody, I'm back. But before I decide to stay I want to know if my activity is rewarded.

This is internet and things can be experienced very coldly when you don't receive any signal that your presence is rewarded. Then one can be considered as an idiot if one continues in spite of this and it would drive me away again from GMG. On the contrary I expect to find some warmth here and want to bring in warmth myself.

So, I hope, cheers to positive vibes!

I am back, because I suddenly missed GMG. I decided to come back with a more sensible approach. Just to post what I listen to with optionally some information I want to share and get inspired by others to listen stuff and tell about my working activities.

kind regards to everyone,
Henk

Hello,

I don't know you yet. Do you want to tell me something about yourself? I would appreciate that very much. :)

As long as you return the favour? I'm a 57 year old British man who has always loved music (although classical from only about 5 years ago). I was recently set free from wage slavery, leaving me more time for running, fulfilling every need of two cats and enjoying good beers and whiskies. My politics are left-wing and I'm a vegetarian; but have recently got rid of my sandals.

I think that's enough for a first date  :P

Thanks for sharing. I live in Drachten, a little place in The Netherlands. I make some art, I plan to take some lessons since I'm on a higher level and need some more skills to master that level.

I read a lot books, especially non-fiction. I'm going to do an online course about technology and ethics at the University of Twente, where I did my university study as well, next week. I want to study the field of Ambient Intelligence, to calm people who are ill with sounds (or music, so you want). :)

Cheers! I've skimmed some of your older posts. I think we both have eclectic tastes in music (I see Zorn, Buddy Guy, Arvo Part...) I fear you also have a very large brain (reading Derrida...)

That Ambient Intelligence thing sounds interesting to me (took psychology at uni, Buddhism...)

Hope you decide to stay.

Henk

Will stay, only don't know in what intensity and frequency of posts. Thanks for your warm messages.  :)

Hey Henk - welcome back, good to see you! :)
I've taken a break from the forum a few times too but I always come back - it's the only decent place to talk about music on the internet I know of..
What have you been listening to since your last period of activity?.

Holden

Welcome back Henk, your views are always very welcome.

Some here like to have a say on every topic, which is fine by me. I only post when I feel that I have something useful to say and it sounds as if you're going to do similar. I enjoy the site and have had many great recommendations from the members here about recordings. There have also been some very interesting musical discussions.
Cheers

Conor!, great to be in touch again.

Listened to various stuff, from pop to contemporary classical music and from metal (inspired by Greg, we had (have) chats on a regular basis) to jazz.

Some stuff I listened to:
- Omar Sosa & Paolo Fresu - Alma (very calming music)
- Robin Eubanks - KLlassik rocK, vol 1
- Misha Mengelberg - Senne Sing Song (with Greg Cohen en Ben Perowsky) Really a nice one if you want to discover some Mengelberg
- Quite a lot David Bowie
- Metal: Megadeth (Dystopia, their latest) Meshuggah, Sepultura, Animals as Leaders (if considered metal), Aborted (a band Greg recently recommended me, good stuff)
- last few weeks explored a lot of pop music by Spotify, I like the new Charli XCX. The EP 3 o' clock by Blonde Redhead, wonderful recording.
contemporary music stuff: - De Raaff - Waiting for Miss Monroe, not sure what to think of it, but need to relisten to it.
           - Thierry Escaich, some kind of postromantic music, greatly impressed.
           - last few days: Martijn Padding. Need to listen closer, sounds quite refreshing to me
- Dizzy Gillespie
- Marcus Miller
- Abdullah Ibrahim
- Arcane - Known - Learned. Australian band, so you might know them. Progrock, great when I'm in the mood.
- Vandergraaf Generator
- Explored quite much Elliott Sharp. Experimental american guitarist, one of my favourite musicians.
- main classical stuff: Beethoven, Mozart, Handel, Rossini, Chopin. Stravinsky, Part, Takemitsu
- much Tori Amos, her entire oeuvre
- much recently released jazz
:)

Have a great day, Conor! :)

Yes, just staying calm behind my laptop. Trying to be well-mannered. No stress and frustrations anymore. Joy and goodness instead. :)
