Soundcloud is apparently dying?

If reports are to be believed.

I embarrassingly didn't have anything recent enough to be worth sharing on soundcloud, so I'll probably just get a bandcamp like everyone else, but people who use it a lot will have issues if it dies... and of course a lot of the composers I listen to on there will have their works vanish from accessibility, never to be heard again. Its death seems like much more an issue for consumers than creators, actually, given the range of alternatives available (http://www.newmusicbox.org/articles/beyond-soundcloud-why-we-share/)

But, at the end of that post:

QuoteUpdate: ... If, that is, those reports can be believed. Since I posted this, a Facebook reader alerted me to this post on the Soundcloud blog, from 14 July and written by Soundcloud co-founder Alex Ljung, which claims that 'Soundcloud is here to stay. ... The music you love on SoundCloud isn't going away, the music you shared or uploaded isn't going away, because SoundCloud is not going away. Not in 50 days, not in 80 days or anytime in the foreseeable future. Your music is safe.' I'm still wary, especially in the fragile world of Internet economics, that there's rarely smoke without fire, but let's hope this post's claims are true.

I also hope those claims are true, but people in the know have been sounding the alarm about Soundcloud persistently enough for long enough that I expect the worst (unless a last minute buyer happens to step in, as happened with Qobuz). I doubt that the site will actually fall off a cliff and vanish overnight, but everyone I know is downloading and backing up their stuff just in case, lol.

I only hope that similar reports about the demise of the Amazon Classical Forum are true!!
