Der Titan

Hi

I am living in Hamburg, Germany, and I am a German. I love classical music for a very long time. My English istn't perfect, and can't be perfect, as I  only learnt it in school. I know this forum for quite a long time. I would like to read and write in this forum.

I have no special favourites in classical music. But mostly I listen to classical music starting with Purcell and later composers. I hope to learn a lot through this forum and have a bit fun too.

Welcome, "Der Titan" - which Titan are you, anyway?  8)
Saint-Saëns, who predicted to Charles Lecocq in 1901: 'That fellow Ravel seems to me to be destined for a serious future.'

Der Titan

Well, my name "Der Titan" comes from Mahler's 1st symphony, which Mahler called "Der Titan" relying to the German author Jean Paul, who called one of his novels "Der Titan".  "Der Titan" means of course "the titan".  And the titans were in the old Greek history beings who somehow challenged the gods, like Prometheus challenged Zeus.

To be nitpicking, both the book by Jean Paul and the (discarded) subtitle of Mahler's first are named "Titan" without the article.
