The One

Single recording that you've purchased this year which was released this year. Is it good only for this year or do you think that it is a desert island disc now?

No boxes, no collections, no "if it was two recordings"s, no flexibility :). Multi-disc works such as choral works or operas are, of course, acceptable

I didn't really buy much that was released this year....

probably this one would be my choice—not sure about "desert island" but this is the best recording I've heard so far of this music

Many thanks! (Didn't know how to do it  ???).

Disc of the year for me:

The reason I chose this particular recording is because 1. this is the best performance of A London Symphony (regardless of what version) that I've heard, 2. the couplings are just fantastic, and 3. this has become my most listened to recording of all the ones that I've bought that were released this year.

This is most definitely a recording I need to pick up. The only problem is the availability of it is limited to overseas sellers (per usual in my experience with Dutton), which means unless I select priority shipping, I won't see this recording for a couple of weeks.

Good job I noticed the "released this year" qualifier before submitting my choice.

Probably the Villa-Lobos Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2, Sao Paulo SO/Karabtchevsky. No. 2 has shot up towards the top of my V-L symphonies ranking.
