How do I get rid of ads in windows 10?

I know this is probably not the best place to ask this question, but I thought someone would have an idea what to do.

I keep getting annoying ads popping up on my computer -- you can see one for ebay on the above screen shot. I just clicked on it and it took me to ebay.
How can I stop this happening?

Windows 10. Malware Bytes shows no malware installed. No ebay apps installed. Avira says there's no problems. Right clicking on the ad does nothing. I can find no way to find the origin of the ad.

It certainly behaves like adware.  Does it only appear when using the internet?  Does it appear if you use a different browser?

I have Windows 10 and use Google Chrome, and no such ads appear for me.  Why don't you press alt-ctrl-del and check through the list of processes in the task manager to see if anything looks odd, and then check that process out online.  Look at programs using network resources in particular.

     The last time I installed Windows 10 I turned off anything that looked like it would send me ads or suggestions or tips. Now I just get notifications.

     I use a strict browser for some sites and a looser one for sites that won't work if you block too much.  One almost always works better, and sometimes it's the stricter one.

Thanks for these thoughts. Every setting that looks as though it could send me an ad or a notification is turned off. Next time one of these things pops up I'll investigate the task manager. It only seems to happen when I'm using chrome - but I'm always using chrome, I'd change to another browser if I could make the transfer easily but last time I looked into this it wasn't clear how to transfer forms settings or even passwords.
