I have a question: has rule no 1 (one player to a part) been eliminated/eased ?

Hmm, these rules were put into place to ensure that all the nominated pieces have things in common and that we don't get things like orchestral works and so on

OK. So it's not strictly adhered to, then. There are a few works with more than one player to a part in the lists we vote on.

I am not familiar with all works....which ones don't qualify as chamber/large chamber works?

Good point. What pieces? They should be eliminated. Some were eliminated/withdrawn early for this.

André

Rule # 1 says 'one player to a part'. That eliminates Schubert's Octet, Mozart's Gran Partita, Berg's Kammerkonzert, Ligeti's Chamber Concerto, Schönberg's Chamber Symphony to name the most obvious. All of these works have at least one instrument working in pair. The Gran Partita is all in pairs except for the double bass.

One player to a part doesn't mean that there can only be a single one of each type of instrument.  All it means is that there are no two players playing the same thing at all times.  String quartets are always one player to a part, but a string orchestra arrangement of a string quartet would not be.

I think it's way too late to eliminate any works at this stage of the game for not lining up perfectly with game rules (already close to done with round two).

One more thing.  Considering Jessop's musical preferences, he came up with a great game that's rather unique in that I've not seen a game with this content before.

ComposerOfAvantGarde

Mahlerian is right, let us continue the game.

André

Of course, let's continue. It's a great game.  :)

In another game Sammy suggested I go back to the post that outlined the selections, as I had questions about a work I was wondering about. I wanted to see if Dvorak's Serenade op.44 was included in this one. That's when I found the rules and noticed the Dvorak didn't qualify because of the 'one to a part' policy.  And then I saw it was not alone in that situation.
