Looking forward to reading lots more of interesting posts on this excellent forum and hopefully can make the odd contribution myself. I listen exclusively to the LP record and my main interest are recordings of English music and music and artists from behind the old "Iron Curtain".

Welcome, as you will have seen there are quite a few folk here who write about either of your two mani areas of interest. I hope you enjoy yourself and feel happy to contribute to the discussions.

Hello. Lots of Myaskovsky fans here!

Great! I'm a big fan of his string quartets.

Thanks to all for such a warm welcome.

Good to have you on board. Who is your avatar image of? The style reminds me of Cezanne. Miaskovsky's valedictory  13th String Quartet is particularly wonderful.

That is a portrait of Constant Lambert by Christopher Wood from 1926.

I have two recordings of Miaskovsky's 13th with the Borodin and Taneyev Quartets. The big 12th also holds a special place. Another favourite chamber work is the second Cello Sonata, lovely first movement.

Welcome! There is plenty of discussion of English music but nearly all of it on CD. I have kept most of my LPs of English music but rarely listen to them. Fairly recently I have bought a few secondhand Melodiya  LPs - Scriabin, Shostakovich - but that was an exceptional purchase.

Thanks. It did occur to me that it might be Constant Lambert. The Second Cello Sonata of Miaskovsky is one of my favourites as well. I've just discovered the lyrical Violin Sonata which, amazingly, has only just been recorded.

Yes, and a very nice Cezanne-like painting of him as well!

For obvious reasons I especially like this photo of Lambert:

All the Lyrita covers are imaginative but this one I think one of the best. Christopher Wood's portrait is held at The National Portrait Gallery, London.
