Jeez. This is not the news I expected to see today. Wanted to catch him live some day. Only 49. Reports say cardiac arrest brought on by some sort of kidney disorder.

I have to admit I never really connected with his records, but am reconsidering in view of how much other musicians I enjoy seem to have respected his musicianship. Played the second R.H. Factor album and the acoustic "Earfood" today. The later is pretty good, a follow up on second great quintet fare though, and that's just not what I feel like listening to all that often ... but his trumpet and flugelhorn playing is pretty wonderful throughout.
