my fourteen favorite recording of the Johnson Bagpipe Concerto.

That's a lousy concerto, to begin with. Try Smith's Cymbalom Concerto.

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I have twenty-six on a period cymbalom and sixty-two on a modern one. Vibratoless cymbalom is not really my cup of tea.

Na freilich! Das Land ohne Musik, und wo die Zitronen nicht blühn... ;D

Kein sanfter Wind vom blauen Himmel weht,
Kein Myrte still und hoch der Lorbeer steht?

Who said German is complicated? Even in poetry you can preserve rhyme and rythm and yet turn it into its polar opposite just by modifying the article.  :D

The Johnson concerto is a dudd, but Kevin Weed's is a beauty!

(Except that one has to learn the correct cases:)  ;D

Actually, it was just incomplete punctuation:

Das Land ohne Musik, wo kein' Zitronen blühn,
Im dunkeln Laub kein' Gold-Orangen glühn,
Kein sanfter Wind vom blauen Himmel weht,
Kein' Myrte still und hoch der Lorbeer steht?
Kennst du es wohl?

Actually, it was just incomplete punctuation:
Ah! But that can be bettered:

's Land ohn' Musik, wo kein' Zitron'n blühn,
Im dunk'ln Laub' kein' Gold-Orang'n glühn,
Kein sanft'r Wind vom blau'n Himm'l weht,
Kein' Myrt' still und hoch d'r Lorbeer steht?
Kennst-du's wohl?

Pronouncing with my punctuation preserves the original German. Pronouncing with your punctuation turns the whole thing into Dutch.  ;D

Actually more into Low Saxon, my mother tongue. In Dutch it would look like:

Ken je dat land zonder muziek, waar geen citroenen bloeien,
In het donkere gebladerte geen gouden sinaasappels gloeien,
Geen zachte wind uit de blauwe hemel suist,
Geen myrte stil staat en geen laurier hoog?
Ken je dat wel?

Say what? Romania is full of them.

(Tee in German is pronounced almost like the Romanian tei, meaning lime tree.)

Which part of The Netherlands are you actually from?

Could you please post the Low Saxon version as well?  :)
