I'm a new member. I am not sure if I will post or just lurk. I am mostly looking for recommendations and advice. I like all classical music (and a lot of jazz). I hope there are people here who like contemporary music and have some good recommendations.

Welcome and enjoy!
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Greetings from another Dr. Johnson.  For jazz, the Miles Davis 'Birth of Cool' album is always good listening.

Greetings from me. Personally I hope that you join in as it is always good to hear from new members and get different points of view.

You must try and visit the Jazz Lounge.  There are a number of us who are avid jazz listeners and would look forward to having you join us.

Welcome aboard! Who are some your favorite composers?

Dr Johnson

That was a warm welcome! I appreciate it. I'll take a look at the contemporary threads and visit the Jazz Lounge - I hope it is a smokey one even though I gave up smoking a long time ago. My favourite composers are too many to name but they include the 3 Bs as well as Mozart and Mahler (the 2 Ms). I also love Bartok and Stravinsky and Britten. And I get a lot out of Boulez and Carter and Kurtag these days.
