One more Christmas mass:

This a French Baroque "organ mass" for Christmas Day, using plainchant from the choir books of the Notre Dame with the Ordinary and organ alternations composed by André Campra. This is a co-production between Marcel Pérès and Olivier Schneebeli and his ensemble and Les pages de la Chapelle (boys choir). Pérès is behind the Clicquot organ of the Église Saint-Jacques et Saint-Christophe in the village of Houdan, some 40 miles West of Paris.

PS Not to be confused with the 12th c. Christmas Mass "École de Nôtre Dame" by the same Ensemble Organum!

A very lovely, favorite disc. I had a Supraphon LP from ca 1970. Music that smells of incense, sheep and burning candles.

Bound to Nothing.
The German Stylus Fantasticus.
See for details the back cover.
Recorded in the Oude Dorpskerk, Bunnik, The Netherlands on 1-3 June 2014.

This is just what it is, a good example of the German Stylus Fantasticus. Well represented by the ensemble Fantasticus. A good recording too.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Dieterich Buxtehude.
Complete chamber Music.
3 CD'S.
CD I & CD II, for good measure
See back cover for details.
Recorded in 2010 at the Waalse Kerk, Amsterdam.

I am not a great fan of Koopman's musical antics, but the chamber works are done to perfection, and in good sound no less. Ensemble playing is wonderful too. Prime Buxtehude.

Can you clarify for a novice? The recording looks nice and the impromptus are among my favorite pieces of classical music.

Well the pedal makes the sound go quiet, I think when it's depressed only one string in the piano is hit by the hammer, instead of three. The result is quite a special timbre, and it seems to me quite spooky. It's some sort of fortepiano, by the way. You'll find it on spotify etc - but not as far as I can see on YouTube.

It's very good, you must hear it. It features two versions of first impromptu, one early and maybe not recorded elsewhere. Both very interestingly performed.
