Britten: Double Concerto for violin and viola

A perky opening, a lovely slow movement and vaulting joie de vivre in the final movement. The precocious eighteen-year-old Britten's cup overflowed with all sorts of good things, and they flourish in this exceedingly likeable piece. I'm surprised it doesn't get aired/mentioned more often really. Jurowski brings bundles of incisive energy with his usual brilliant and illuminating flair.

Bucharest is safe from flooding but other parts of the country, especially Southern Moldavia, were badly affected.

What is it that makes you attracted to this one but not to Unknown Lover? Is it just the music, or the style?

I've been listening to these old Gothic Voices recordings in your footsteps, and really enjoying it -- especially Unknown Lover!

Schubert, Franz - Piano Trios - my two sets on PI with Penelope Crawford on fortepiano and Golub-Kaplan-Carr Trio; a lot of culling over the years and sure that others have their own favorites in these works, but these sets work for me.  Dave
