Haydn: Piano sonata no.49 in C sharp minor

Hmm. Disc one ends with rather an odd piece. Not that I dislike it as such, but I feel it might take a few listens to get a handle on what's happening. The 2nd movement in particular is extremely skittish.

EDIT: Listening for a second time with a score handy (thanks IMSLP). I think I have a slight issue with Bavouzet taking too much notice that the 2nd movement is a 'scherzando'. He's mucking about with the tempo in ways that aren't necessary. Haydn already wrote the music.

Suite number 3.

Edit: Apparently it's nearly 3 years since my last proper listen to a suite?? Ouch.

Quite simply, a wonderful work!

In recent days...

I still recall the time in the early 1970's, when the first part of this amalgamation came out on Melodiya, and then almost 30 years went by until Alexander Nemtin's efforts could be completely heard.

YouTube offers a live 2018 performance from Belgium:

How much is Scriabin and how much is Nemtin?

I think the result makes the question irrelevant.   8)  😇

An enticing, spacious recording of Beethoven's Mass in C major, a work that is overlooked surprisingly often for such a composer/subject combination. The Kyrie makes for a lovely start.
