Funnily enough, I was recently trying to find out which work of hers was played on my local radio station as I enjoyed it--couldn't find it alas.  A friend did lend me an album of hers, 11,000 Virgins (Chants for the Feast of St. Ursula) which I look forward to listening to soon.  It's also by Anonymous 4.

How did you like the Origin album Simon?

Tallis: Salve intemerata & Other Sacred Music -- The Cardinall's Musick, Andrew Carwood

When the mind is empty, pure, and well aired of the musty hoards of fears and hopes, it is able to receive the whole world into itself without remainder.

Longing.
Webern-Bartok-Britten.
Animato Quartet.
Inga Våga Gaustad, violin. Tim Brackman, violin. Elisa Karen Tavenier, viola. Pieter de Koe, cello.
Recorded 2025 at: Sint-Pieterskerk, Maasmechelen, Belgium.

All three pieces on this disc are for me absolute highlights in the music I cherish. All three composers represent a world of discovery in musical colours that take my breath away, or I skip a heartbeat or two. It has a profound impact on me. There is so much passion, eloquence, and deeply rooted expressions in a language that speaks to me, every time again. Three works in the same vein, but with a totally different musical outcome, yet it is fascinating juxtapositioning these compositions. They flow as one expression, from composers that were seeking and trespassing on territory yet undiscovered. And what a powerful and compact result. This ensemble is already on the pinnacle of excellence, and that comes forcibly out in the interpretations. SOTA recording, and absolutely recommended.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Don Santiago de Murcia.
Works for Baroque Guitar.
Stefano Maiorana, Guitar, by Martin Haycock, East Dean, Sussex, 2015 (after Giorgio and Matteo Sellas, Venice, first half 17th century).
Recorded in the Studio Hemiola, Rome, 2019.

Maiorana demonstrates here the unique sound and ability of the baroque guitar to adapt to different styles. The versatile oeuvre of Santiago de Murcia, one of the main exponents of the baroque guitar repertoire, also includes a series of transcriptions from Corelli's violin sonatas op.5, which gave rise to the idea of exploring the relationship between the Spanish and Italian styles in de Murcia's guitar music. Pieces such as Fandango, Jácaras and Canarios are combined with two Corelli sonatas and a series of original or anonymous variations on the 'Folías Italiana'. The result is a stimulating kaleidoscope of sound colors. SOTA recording, and superb performance. The Baroque Guitar has a dark tone, but lots of expression. I must listen more often to guitar works from that era.

I play this box on repeat and that is no punishment. Fine performances and sound, well worth the investment.

Listened to this yesterday. Great minds etc. Great cover art too.

Britten: Lachrymae (Reflections on a song by John Dowland) Op. 48a
Tabea Zimmermann (viola), Ensemble Resonanz

What a uniquely beautiful work this is, sounding splendid in its orchestral version here. Zimmermann and Ensemble Resonanz get right inside it and emerge with treasure. And what a moving and transcendent moment it is when Dowland's song is finally quoted at the end of the work.

Good choice. I have and greatly enjoy both the Schubert and the Mozart.

Schubert: Moments Musicaux.

Pinned to my listening chair by the controlled intensity of Curzon's playing. Moments Musicaux is elevated in my thoughts to the level of masterpieces such as the String Quintet and last Piano Sonata.

This afternoon I watched this livestream from the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, with conductor Manfred Honeck and violinist Leonidas Kavakos. I liked the Brahms just fine, though some of those commenting were grousing about Kavakos' technique. He caught the folkish spirit of the finale very well, and gave a Bach Sarabande as an encore.

The Bruckner was wonderful; Honeck is a known quantity with this piece.
