Symphony No. 6

Clearly one of the best by this composer. Is not the first movement a wonder unto itself? It feels organic and natural.

Yes, I love the way the 1st movement unfolds.

Requiem

This is not the typical doleful requiem, it's rather hopeful. The choral writing is close to that of Herbert Howells. Quientessential English. It was so good.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Disc two.  As good as disc one.  I would enjoy it immensely if Lonquich recorded a period instrument piano sonata cycle.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

That finale coda... so amazing every time.

CD4

Lyrische Stucke Op 74
Cinq Morceaux Pour Piano Op 74
13 Morceaux Pour Piano Op 76
Cinq Morceaux Op 85
Six Pieces Op 94

The only reason I can't recommend this set is that it is OOP. [It is available from AmazonUK as an MP3 download. Possibly other sources as well.]

Franz Schubert: Symphony No.8 in B minor, D759, the "Unfinished". George Szell, Cleveland Orchestra

First listen. So far, so good.

Another Qobuz freebie.  The pieces are not exactly items I play regularly, but the performances are excellent, and the sound quality is SOTA++.  A nice grab.

Glad you're enjoying it. I just checked where I got it and when. It was from Presto in September 2018. They still have downloads, but not the CDs. Shame that it's gone out of print so fast as it was only released in late 2015.

That's about when I got mine, I think.  This is my second time through the set. Strange how not ordering any new stuff gives me time to listen to stuff I have.  :P  The only thing I have not listened to at all is PBS's PI LvB set on Arcana, plus various Wagner and Callas recordings.

Onto the 9th. This is one of the best Schubert 9ths I've heard. Very fast, precise, but not at all thin or lacking in warmth. The brisk tempi (including in the slow movement) might rub some the wrong way, but I think it works to the work's advantage.

Intensely visceral piece, a wild ride. This guy can create some truly moving music in all the sense of the word.

Impressive.

Most of Graener works I've heard are rather good. The Symphony on that CD is especially great. I remember the 3rd movement beginning like with a chivalrous theme, very catchy.

Xenakis - A Colone. Pleasant choral music, another album worth continuing with later :).
