I should spend more time with the Arnold concerti. I really enjoyed the Guitar Concerto. I should probably revisit that Ogden/Hickox performance as it's been quite some time since I've heard it. I remember liking that Lennox Berkeley Guitar Concerto from that recording as well.

It's a marvelous performance which really captures the spirit of the music. Hickox was a superb conductor of Arnold's music IMO. And yeah, the L. Berkeley concerto is a gem, as is the brief Arnold Serenade included on that disc.

Svendsen: Symphony No 1 in D major - Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Dausgaard. Johan Svensen (1840 - 1911) was a Norwegian composer/conductor who spent most of his career in Denmark. Enjoyable work.

I love Svendsen's symphonies - wonderfully well-crafted, tuneful, and uplifting works. Unfortunately, due to the current obsession with "heavyweight" symphonic repertoire (Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Mahler, Shostakovich), they never get performed.

Karayev: Seven Beauties Suite

I seem to be in the minority here for not being a huge admirer of this work. :-\ It's well-orchestrated, sure, but can't compete with, say, Khachaturian, in memorability IMO.

What do you think about Berkeley's other music?

Having previously listened to the other quartets was quite useful to understand these better since I struggled with them at first. Alwyn at his more impenetrable but fascinating at once. These works demand full concentration but at the end the rewards are noticeable.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Very nice. Love that work.

Thread duty -

Vetrate di chiesa (Church Windows)

Church Windows is my favourite work by Respighi.

As the penny has finally dropped I am looking forward to give Sir Adrian a spin, Jeffrey.

I listened to the EMI Bridge LP with Groves a couple of weeks ago and thought at the time as seascapes go Bridge is one of the best. The cover art is great, but I must say the CD is good too.
I think that the first CD release featured the Winslow Homer painting but I don't have that one. Yes, it's a terrific work.

It's certainly one of my mine, but I would be hesitant to claim it as my absolute favorite since there's so much in his oeuvre that I do enjoy.

I find it enjoyable and atmospheric with some memorable moment - especially the Chandos recording.

Mainly Amazon MP sellers and eBay sellers, although I have used Discogs a few times as well. Of course, this Glazunov is a 6-CD set and has each individual volume housed in a cardboard box. Lucky to have it in this particular issue.
