First listen to any of the symphonies in many years. I know I liked them enough to buy downloads of all of them on eclassical, and have since then made the acquaintance of the concertos, orchestral works and string quartets. But in the process I have almost forgotten what his symphonies sound like... ::)

No picture on my screen. I have purchased Brinkmann's set several months ago, but not listened to her so far. There are so many other new cello suites sets to listen to.  :)

Unwrap it immediately. I've been playing it all day, it's very good!

No.10 is especially good. It was one of the two that I discovered on LP although in an earlier recording.

Now playing: Rubbra Piano Concerto:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Another fabulous November 2019 release I'd forgotten about. And this is music by my bête noire, but it seems to be going down alright tonight.

I caught the last movement of Symphony No.4 on the radio early this morning - a great start to the day.

Mozart

Violin Concertos 1 & 2

Symphonic Addict

Piano quintets by Ignacy Friedman and Ludomir Różycki. The first one is just plain, dull, with no direction, whereas the one by Różycki has charm, passion, a sort of distended lyricism.

Wind Quintet No. 1

A fascinating work. Aho makes magic with the instruments.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Ben-Haim: 'Pan' Symphonic Poem for Soprano and Orchestra:
An atmospheric work which pre-dates the composer's move to Tel Aviv.
It was begun after his 'long and dismal service' in the German Army in World War One according to the booklet notes.
It shows the influence of Debussy and R.Strauss. It reminded me in places of Bliss's 'The Enchantress'.
Now on to the 'Pastoral Variée' (1945/48) for solo clarinet with string orchestra and harp. This is a beautiful and haunting work in Ben Haim's more familiar, dreamy and 'Middle eastern' style. The middle section oddly reminded me in places of Warlock's 'The Curlew'.

Thanks for the good description, Jeffrey. Seems like a lovely CD.

Piet Swerts - Clarinet Quintet

The first work I've ever heard by the Belgian Piet Swerts, and an unexpected surprise it was. How atmospheric and fine it sounds. There are 3 gorgeous slow movements (Serenata, Notturno and Elegia) + a waltz-like Scherzo and a fun Finale. I'm glad I discovered this highly interesting piece.

Gustav Holst - Quintet for piano and winds

Holst also wrote some lovely chamber music. This piece is a fine example of it. Good-humored, fluent, charming. I take a good impression of it.

I saw no picture either. Thanks for naming the artist; I was about to ask.

A pleasure Cesar. The performance of the Symphony No.1 was terrific and better IMO to the very good CPO recording. Not to be missed!

One of my discs of the year.

Johannes Ockeghem Masse 2  Beauty Farm, very good , has ensemble Blue Heron put it whit there new release of Johannes Ockeghem ,, he like the J.s Bach of Renaissance, His music is compelling, starling, melodic, Impressionist, when you discern the pallet of colour he using, you found out this composer his brilliant, some people find him drab, these people never  actually sit down and listen to his works, there is more to this composer than his requiem and the formidable Missa Prolationum every one like he crafted song's too very riveting, whom here support what BleHeron said.

Ockeghem= J.s Bach same level of genieous!!!!!  8)

Inspired by que's description of what a Chopin mazurka should sound like, I thought I'd put on the ultimate anti-que, antique.
