Ricercare.
Mascherata.
Wilhelmus van Nassouwe.

Netherlands SO, David Porcelijn

A good wine doesn't need praise, and neither does good music. A Grand Cru amongst Dutch composers.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Arnie's in the house...

Schoenberg
String Quartet No. 2
Susan Narucki (soprano)
Schoenberg Quartet

How is Arnold Schoenberg's piano music?  I ran across an album of it with Pollini I believe the other day, but passed on it.  This one:  https://www.amazon.com/Arnold-Schoenberg-Maurizio-Klavierwerk-Grammophon/dp/B00AVY457E/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=schoenberg+pollini&qid=1606752136&sr=8-3

Are you familiar with it by any chance?

Harry

Paul Graener.

Orchestral Works, Volume I.

Comedietta, opus 82.
Variationen über ein Russisches Volkslied, opus 55.Musik am Abend, opus 44.
Sinfonia breve, opus 96.

NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Werner Andreas Albert.

I admire Graener very much, his music hits several nerves with me. It feels like homecoming, certainly in such performances and ditto sound. Sadly a neglected composer, but he is uppermost in my collection.

One of my favorite obscure composers. I have all the orchestral works CDs plus the piano trio works.  Despite living in dire times and experiencing personal tragedies, his music is unfailingly cheerful and life-affirming. Excellent! 8)

Oh yes, I'm quite familiar with Arnie's piano music (there's not much of it), but you're familiar at all with his music and like it, then that Pollini recording should be an excellent introduction.

I like this one:

I haven't heard nor own that one, but I'm sure it is. I'm pretty good on Arnie's piano music, though as I own Pollini, Jacobs and various performances from Barenboim and Uchida.

Great stuff Harry! I have Christo's generosity to thank for my knowledge of Andriessen.

Does not matter what you buy of him, there is always quality in abundance. I bought all this music as soon as it was available, and that goes for a bunch of other Dutch composers too.

Where have Jean Françaix been all these years? This is music right up my alley, charming, delightful, witty, tuneful, impeccably crafted and unpretentious --- and the fact that he composed such music late into the 1970s is all the more remarkable!  8)
