Yes, indeed. Boulez seems like an anti-Brucknerian in so many respects and the same goes for his Mahler, but he has such a unique way with these composers, it's difficult to find any kind of fault with him.

I'll have to relisten to this performance at some point. I like the tempi too: they're neither too fast nor too slow.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL more than ever!

Magnard - String Quartet in E minor

I like the rustic touch Magnard frequently gave to his works, including this great quartet.

I'm generally not one for the whole "on this date I must listen to this music" kind of notion, but Beethoven's 250th is simply too momentous to ignore.

So far today:

'Pathetique' sonata (Goode)
'Waldstein' sonata (Kovacevich)
Symphony no.8 twice. Zinman the first time, then because Zinman is just a little bit too worked up (particularly in the 1st movement which feels excessively 'vivace') I'm now streaming Karajan 1960s.

To my ear it is a balm too :)
Good morning Que!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Good morning, Harry!

If only the stuff (on Cypres) wasn't so pricey!  ::)

But my finger is hovering over the "buy" button to catch up with my Huelgas collection, as a Christmas present to myself...  :D

This CD is an apt Christmas gift, despite the fact that Cypres CD's are indeed pricey.

Joinig the Beethoven feast, with the (too?) obvious choice, but the one that really seems most appropriate...

Carl Schuricht conducts the Choeurs Elisabeth Brasseur and L'Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in Symphony No. 9. The soloists are Wilma Lipp, Marga Höffgen, Murray Dickie and Gottlob Frick.

Thanks! I believe when one listens to as many recordings as I do as long as I do taste implicitly improves :).
