Concerning Mikrokosmos I feel much in the same way, while the other set of instructive pieces For Children feel much more musically rewarding even if the pieces are shorter.

Happy birthday MI  :)

Lovely! You must be listening to the original issued recording on Koch. Naxos, of course, reissued Craft's Stravinsky and they put the three Greek ballets together.

Interesting. I prefer S1 and the two Overtures to S2 though I find all the works in the set very attractive. Still, S2 proffers unique lyricism and aestheticism as you say. Have you listened to the 3rd set- String Concertos by V? It is a wonderful set. Also the new set of Orchestral Works Vol. 2 will be released on April 2!

I thought the Symphony No. 1 was too noisy, particularly the 4th movement. Not even Khachaturian reached such level of "euphoria" in any of his works.  ;D

No, I haven't got the CD with the string concertos yet, and I didn't know the orchestral works vol. 2 is coming soon as well. Capriccio has done a great job by gathering all these works together.

I think of Rawsthorne as bitter/sweet. The two movement 1st Violin Concerto is lyrical, in fact the first movement is marked Adagio espressivo.

Bitter-sweet is quite apt, albeit for me he's more bitter than sweet. I'll have to refamiliarize with the VC then.

Reinecke - Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2

I hadn't heard these works in years. My current impression is that this music is too mainstream and predictable for my taste. Pleasant? Yes, but nothing remotely special.

Hérold - Symphonies

Listening to the 1st Symphony. Sounds very close to Haydn in style. Entertaining and graceful music.

NP: Stravinsky Apollon musagète (Salonen)

This might be my first-listen to this performance from Salonen. I'm not quite sure. Anyway, truly remarkable as with all of the Stravinsky I've heard from Salonen has been so far.

Sergei Prokofiev: Symphony No.7 in C-sharp minor, op.131. Theodor Kuchar, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine

First listen to this very lyrical symphony. Enjoying the work and performance.
